such good tips... is it ok if I name dr.Dan Purser here, & suggest folks look for his Youtubes on MTHFR....only that he talks fast!! He knows his stuff, but hard for us non-scientists to keep up... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSC0vwnMByY

Any recs or trusty brands for a probiotic you can get at a grocery store? I want to start there before committing to a subscription somewhere but the options are overwhelming!

Hi Ellie,

I think a lot of them are junk. I would go to a sprouts refrigerated section first or Whole Foods but I think the linked ones are comparable in price with what you'll pay there. Big chain supply places that sell 6500 products vs companies who only do sups is a whole different ballgame.

I am curious what the code is for searching for MTHFR on 23&me.

Speaking of finding unknown relatives, I did it to hopefully find my half sister and had no luck.

I have an aunt that uses ancestry.com religiously and that helped to make a lot of connections. is there anyone on there that that it has connected you to whom you don't know?

for 23 and me, you have to go into "raw data" which you can find using the search button on the website and not usually the app. Then it will let you search for genes: you want to search rs1801133 and look at the bottom part that says genotypes. if it says GG that's normal. If it says AA you have a reduction in MTHFR enzyme by 80%. If it says AG, you have a reduction by 40%

and rs1801131' . If it says TT, it's normal, GT is one variant (reduction by 40%)and GG is two copies of the variant which is a reduction by 80%.

It won't make sense until you get in there and look at what it pulls up!

So if the first gene says genotype A/G and the second one says T/T.. what does that mean?

I think A/G is a variant and T/T is normal...but double check me!
