one other thing I've been trying to do for the kids in my life is say 'you must be so proud of yourself for xxx' (instead of I'm so proud of you). thanks for the reminder to focus on this!

I feel strongly about this too! As a teacher, it has been a driving factor in my life for years in my interactions with kids!
