Hello and hi to you middle aged losers! JK, but we are losing some of our ability to make hormones or keep in good vitameic standing. I absolutely made up that word but I can do what I want on this newsletter. Except tell you that I am a doctor—I am not one so go ask your medical professional about your health. I talk about bloodwork here and I think that’s a really good place to start!
But let’s jump into it. In my last supplement newsletter, I told you I think everyone and their mother should be on a probiotic. This is a no brainer. Most of us eat too much processed food to get what we need out of our food, hence the word supplement. The best thing you can do is eat right and cut out the sugars, dyes, bad oils (PLEASE stop buying canola) and swap with real foods. But you know this and so do I, yet still the chips call and we answer. I know I do from time to time.
I am going to have to break this series into chunks based on hierarchy of needs because if we don’t fix our guts and hormones, if we don’t know if our thyroid is working properly, then no magical vitamin is going to save the day. In fact, they might make it worse! Know thyself. This is how you learn to be an advocate for yourself. SO, yes, take this finger prick and spit test at home or go into your doc.
For hormone health, if you’re in your late 30 and up, you’re likely going to need some sort of progesterone suport. If you’re in your mid 40’s and into your 50’s you’re going to see estrogen starting to decline rapidly. Here’s a couple visuals for you:
I don’t know if you’ve seen people eating raw carrots and especially the outer skin to balance hormones on the tiktoks and while there probably is something to that, I would say the fiber in there is the real winner. Pair with some vinegar and you have gut magic! FIBER is amazing for your hormones, thyroid, and gut. So eat more of it. I supplement with fiber as well and I’ll list that below. Fiber is essential to all your systems… so I do think it’s a worthwhile supp for most.
If we’re talking bumping up progesterone support, I do have my own testimonial from last week: I sometimes drop Progessence Plus(linked at the end) under my tongue when I have a headache to see if it’s a hormonal headache(usually right before or after my period). I hadn’t thought about this product in a long time— probably 6 months. There were no headaches, so I didn't even think to use it.
Anyway, last Monday I had a headache that was piercing and weird and I didn’t want to take ibuprofen, so I dropped 3 drops under the tongue. Headache gone with in 30 seconds! Amazing.
But what I didn’t expect was the complete mood change. I have been really unmotivated for a while and just lethargic. I am 42, so I know my hormones are changing and I’m for sure in perimenopause but I didn’t expect the lack of motivation and general gloominess to come after me—after all, I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.
I have been taking this sublingually for 7 days and I am so much more motivated and mood is up! It’s like night and day. Progesterone support is legit if you’re in peri or menopause! And my bloating is less. (it just tastes minty)

If you’re into the late and middle 40’s or into your 50’s, we really have to address that loss of estrogen + progesterone and how it makes women feel. It can be utterly defeating and overwhelming to figure out what’s going on with your body. Someone said it was like a second puberty of sorts, and geez. Thanks for that, God. We will have a chat about this at the pearly gates. Not many studies take into account women, so even what we do have is insufficient to know how to treat and listen to women when they need support. It’s really appalling, actually, to know how we have disregarded women’s experience and only study male bodies. HUGE EYEROLL. I digress.
Mood swings, low sex drive, hot flashes—it’s not pleasant. I got hopped up on femigen and had such a high sex drive, I was annoying my husband. So I had to back off of that to spare the poor guy. But it really does get that estrogen up if you need it. I really do think you need to be experiencing symptoms of low estrogen and/or be in your late 40’s or into your 50’s for this one. Otherwise you’re going to creep into estrogen dominance which is no good for you younger gals! Again, or just get your hormone panel and know exactly where you’re at. The male counterpart to femigen is called Powergize, so if your guy needs hormone support and a little ashwagandah magic WINK WINK, I would highly suggest this.
On the same note since we are talking about sex (gasp), a really amazing lube is liquid coconut oil(alternately castor oil but think about your sheets!) and goldenrod (lol) essential oil + a drop or 2 of peppermint. For a 4 ounce bottle, fill with your coconut oil, 10 drops of goldenrod and 2 drops peppermint. Fun times if you need a little help getting in the mood. Goldenrod increases blood flow and peppermint makes everything FEEL more MORE. Ha. I hope my mother is not reading this.
This is getting long! *Michael Scott joke*
Building supplements for your body and where you’re at in life is so key. Stop with the multivitamins and one size fits all approach to your very complicated body. You’re peeing money! Start paying attention to your body, listening to her, validating her, and advocating for her.
Thanks for hanging. As always, here for your questions and I’m sure your medical provider can offer panels but you must ASK for the full panel, not their standard thyroid or hormone test. You got this!
Later gators,
Jami

I love following you on IG and am enjoying your newsletter. I'm 45 and this information has been helpful. But I was taking Life 9 for 4 months and it made me lactose intolerant, so I stopped taking it and I was able to eat cheese and ice cream again.
